"... [W]e are going to discuss downloading, building, and installing Apache 2.0. As of this writing, Apache 2.0 has had seven alpha releases, and the Apache Group is close to releasing the eighth. Apache alpha releases are only for developers, so no binary distributions are created. However, there are source distributions created for both Windows and Unix; these distributions have only minor differences. The Unix distribution has had the configuration scripts created, whereas the Windows version has Windows project files and makefiles. All of the source files have been converted to a DOS format."
"...Compiling on any platform other than Windows is a bit more complex, because there are many more options. I can not describe all of those options here, but I will touch on the most important ones, and I will explain how to learn about the other options available. To build Apache successfully, you must have an ANSI compiler, such as gcc."
